HYDRAA secures prime land in Banjara Hills

Officials from the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) on Friday fenced 3.63 acres of government land in the upscale Banjara Hills area. The operation was carried out after the agency identified the plot as illegally occupied by private parties.

The land, located in one of the city's most expensive neighbourhoods, had been under dispute for months. HYDRAA teams, accompanied by police, moved in early in the morning to erect fencing and mark the boundary.

Sources said the agency had served prior notices to the occupants, who failed to produce valid ownership documents. No arrests were reported during the operation.

Park sites reclaimed in Hayathnagar and Boduppal

In a separate action, HYDRAA reclaimed park sites in Hayathnagar and Boduppal. These sites, originally designated as public greens, had been encroached upon for commercial use over the years.

In Hayathnagar, the agency cleared a plot that was being used as a private storage yard. In Boduppal, a similar encroachment on a community park was removed. Local residents have welcomed the move, saying it restores much-needed open space in their neighbourhoods.

HYDRAA officials stated that the reclaimed parks will be handed over to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) for maintenance and public use.

Renewed push against encroachments

The actions are part of a larger drive by HYDRAA to recover public land across Hyderabad. The agency, set up to protect government assets and disaster-prone areas, has been increasingly active in recent months.

Officials said they are using satellite imagery and revenue records to identify encroachments that have gone unnoticed for years. The Banjara Hills plot alone is estimated to be worth several crores.

HYDRAA commissioner has warned that more such operations are planned in the coming weeks, particularly in areas where parks, lakes, and other public spaces have been illegally occupied.

What happens next

The agency will now focus on verifying claims on other disputed properties across the city. Officials expect legal challenges from some occupants but remain confident that their actions will hold up in court. For now, residents of Hayathnagar and Boduppal can look forward to their parks reopening soon.
