Kashmira Pardeshi: Hyderabad food scene has spoiled me for other cities

Actress Kashmira Pardeshi, known for her work in Telugu and Hindi cinema, says Hyderabad has set an impossible standard for food. In a candid chat, she admitted that the city’s culinary scene has left her disappointed with meals elsewhere.

Hyderabad’s food culture is unmatched

Pardeshi, who has lived in multiple cities, calls Hyderabad’s food culture unique. She says the city’s mix of Mughlai, traditional Telangana, and modern fusion cuisine creates an experience hard to replicate.

“I’ve travelled a lot for work, but nothing compares to what Hyderabad offers. The biryani, the kebabs, the street food — it’s all on another level,” she said. The actress noted that even simple dishes like ‘dum ka chicken’ or ‘haleem’ are prepared with exceptional skill here.

Biryani and kebabs top the list

When asked about her favourite dishes, Pardeshi didn’t hesitate. “The biryani is obviously the star. But the kebabs, especially the ‘sheekh’ and ‘seekh’ varieties, are just incredible. I’ve had some of the best ‘kebabs’ at small, unassuming places in the old city,” she said.

She also praised the city’s street food scene, calling the ‘chaat’ and ‘pani puri’ in Hyderabad distinct from what she has had in Mumbai or Delhi. “The flavours are more robust, and the freshness is noticeable,” she added.

Food as a cultural bridge

Pardeshi believes Hyderabad’s food reflects its history. The city’s cuisine, she said, is a blend of influences from the Nizams, Mughals, and local Telangana traditions. “Every meal tells a story. That’s something I’ve come to appreciate deeply,” she explained.

She also noted how food brings people together. “When I’m on set, the first thing we discuss is where to eat after pack-up. It’s a bonding ritual here,” she said with a laugh. The actress added that her co-stars and crew often introduce her to hidden gems across the city.

Pardeshi’s comments come amid growing interest in Hyderabad’s food tourism. The city has seen a surge in visitors looking to explore its culinary offerings, from luxury restaurants to roadside stalls.

For now, the actress says she is enjoying every bite. “Hyderabad has completely spoiled me. I don’t think I can ever find food this good anywhere else,” she said.

As she continues filming projects in the city, Pardeshi plans to explore more neighbourhoods and their food. She’s already made a list of eateries recommended by fans and locals.
