Incident in Bhaderwah leaves one dead, three injured
A civilian was killed and three personnel of the Special Operations Group (SOG) were injured in a firing incident in Jammu and Kashmir's Bhaderwah area on Thursday. The confrontation reportedly began after an alleged attempt to snatch a rifle from security forces.
Officials said the deceased was a local resident. The injured SOG personnel have been hospitalised. Their condition is stated to be stable.
How the confrontation unfolded
According to preliminary reports, security forces were conducting a routine patrol in the Bhaderwah belt when a man tried to snatch a weapon from one of the personnel. This led to a scuffle, during which a firearm was discharged.
The civilian sustained a gunshot wound and later succumbed. Three SOG men nearby also suffered injuries, though it remains unclear if they were hit by the same burst of fire or from a separate exchange. Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact sequence of events.
Internet suspended in Chenab Valley
In the aftermath of the violence, the administration ordered a suspension of mobile internet services across parts of the Chenab Valley. The move is aimed at preventing the spread of rumour and maintaining public order.
Residents in Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban districts reported a complete blackout of mobile data services late Thursday evening. Broadband connections remained functional in some areas.
