Tamil Nadu students shine in NEET re-test
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) re-test results for 2026 are out. Twelve students from Tamil Nadu have scored above 690 marks. The re-test was conducted earlier this month after concerns over the initial exam's fairness.
These 12 students are among the top performers nationally. Their scores place them in a strong position for admission to medical colleges across the country. Officials have not yet released a full state-wise breakdown.
Coaching centres and top ranks
Multiple Resonance students have achieved top ranks in NEET UG 2026. The coaching chain reported strong performances from its centres in several states. Aakash Institute students from Hyderabad also secured 14 top ranks in the exam.
The results highlight the continuing dominance of large coaching networks in medical entrance exams. Individual toppers from smaller towns have also emerged, though their numbers remain limited.
Women outnumber men among qualifiers
Women form over 58% of the total NEET UG 2026 qualifiers. This marks a steady increase in female participation and success in medical entrance exams. The trend reflects broader improvements in girls' education access in many states.
Among the Tamil Nadu high scorers, several are women. Their performance underscores the state's strong showing in the re-test. Gender parity in medical admissions has been a long-term goal for policymakers.
'Second rank is as good as first'
Panshul Bansal, who secured the second rank nationally in NEET UG 2026, told NDTV that he considers his achievement equal to the top spot. "Second rank is as good as first," he said. Bansal's statement has resonated with many students who narrowly missed the top position.
The topper of the re-test has not been officially named yet. The National Testing Agency (NTA) is expected to release the complete merit list shortly. Students are advised to check the official website for updates.
What happens next
The NEET 2026 counselling process is expected to begin in August. Students will be able to choose their preferred colleges based on their ranks and category. Medical colleges across India will fill seats through the centralised process.
