The staff association of the GBA has formally demanded the immediate withdrawal of a recent order issued by the health officer. Association representatives met on Saturday to discuss the directive, which they claim was passed without proper consultation or adherence to established procedures.
The order, which pertains to workplace health protocols, has sparked unrest among employees who argue it imposes unreasonable conditions. A memorandum detailing their objections has been submitted to the GBA management.
Association members have pointed to several irregularities in how the order was drafted and communicated. They allege that the health officer bypassed the standard committee review process, leaving staff with no opportunity to provide input.
“This order was sprung on us without any warning. Our concerns were never addressed,” a senior association member said. The group has demanded a full review of the decision-making process.
The association has warned that if their demand is not met within a week, they will consider escalating the matter through industrial action. This could include work stoppages or a formal complaint to higher authorities.
Employees have expressed solidarity, with many backing the association’s stance. The GBA management has not yet issued a public response to the allegations.
Officials from the health department have remained tight-lipped on the controversy. Repeated attempts to reach the health officer for comment were unsuccessful. The department has not confirmed whether any review of the order is underway.
The association has called for a transparent dialogue, urging management to rescind the order and restart the consultation process. They have also sought clarity on the legal basis for the directive.
The association has given the GBA management a seven-day ultimatum to withdraw the order. If no action is taken, the matter could escalate to formal protests or legal recourse. All eyes are now on the health department’s response to the growing pressure from staff.
