The ongoing U.S.-Iran confrontation is producing a cascade of unintended consequences that extend far beyond the immediate military exchanges. Analysts at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) warn that the conflict is creating a volatile environment where miscalculation could trigger a wider regional war.

Iran-backed militias in Iraq, Syria, and Yemen are already mobilising. Attacks on US bases in Iraq and Syria have increased, while Houthi rebels in Yemen have targeted Saudi oil infrastructure. Each incident raises the risk of a broader conflagration that draws in Gulf states and Israel.

Energy Markets and the Strait of Hormuz
