Salman Khan is returning as the host of Bigg Boss for its milestone 20th season. The announcement came from JioStar on Monday, confirming that the actor will once again anchor the Hindi version of the reality show.
The network also unveiled a massive expansion plan. Come September 2026, JioStar will roll out six editions of Bigg Boss all at once, spanning multiple Indian languages.
JioStar’s strategy is unprecedented in Indian television. The company will simultaneously launch Bigg Boss in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Marathi, and Bengali. The Hindi version, which remains the flagship, will be hosted by Salman Khan.
This marks the first time the network will air so many editions in a single launch window. Industry watchers say the move is aimed at dominating the festive-season viewership battle, which typically sees a surge in advertising revenue.
Bigg Boss 20 will also sport a refreshed identity. The show has unveiled an all-new eye logo for its 20th season, signalling a visual reboot. The logo was revealed alongside the hosting announcement.
Details about the contestant lineup or format changes have not been disclosed yet. The network is likely to release more information closer to the premiere date.
Salman Khan has been the face of Bigg Boss Hindi since season 4. His return for season 20 was widely expected, but the official confirmation puts an end to speculation. The actor’s association with the show has been one of the longest-running host-contract relationships in Indian television.
JioStar’s decision to bet big on the franchise comes at a time when streaming platforms are aggressively competing for live audiences. The network is banking on Salman Khan’s star power to anchor the Hindi edition while regional stars will likely host the other versions.
Sourav Ganguly is also reportedly in talks to host the Bengali edition, though the network has not confirmed this.
The six-language salvo puts JioStar’s Bigg Boss ahead of most global Big Brother variants in terms of scale. No other market produces as many simultaneous editions of the format. The move underscores India’s growing importance as a reality TV market.
Analysts say the strategy could fragment the audience but also create a network-wide event that keeps viewers locked in across channels and languages.
JioStar has not yet announced the exact premiere date for each edition. The company is expected to finalise schedules based on regional festival calendars.
What remains to be seen is how the audience responds to six simultaneous seasons — and whether the network can sustain such a large production load without diluting the show’s core appeal.
