Samsung took the stage at its Unpacked 2026 event to unveil three new foldable phones: the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, the Galaxy Z Fold8, and the Galaxy Z Flip8. The lineup marks the company’s most ambitious attempt yet to make foldables mainstream.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra sits at the top, offering a larger display and enhanced multitasking tools. The standard Fold8 retains the book-style form factor, while the Flip8 continues the clamshell design. All three devices ship with upgraded hinges and stronger screens.
Samsung is not just targeting tech enthusiasts in big cities. Aditya Babbar, Senior Vice President of Samsung India, said the company wants foldables to go beyond metros. He pointed to rising demand for premium smartphones in tier-2 and tier-3 cities.
India’s premium smartphone segment has grown rapidly, and Samsung sees foldables as a key driver. The company is expanding retail presence and demo units to smaller towns to let more people experience the devices firsthand.
The Fold8 Ultra features a 7.9-inch inner display when unfolded, with a 120Hz refresh rate. The external screen is now wider, making it more usable without opening the phone. The Flip8 keeps its compact design but gets a larger cover screen for quick notifications.
Under the hood, all three phones run on the latest Snapdragon chipset. Samsung has also improved the camera system, with the Ultra model getting a 200-megapixel main sensor. Battery capacity has been bumped up across the range to handle the larger screens.
Alongside the phones, Samsung unveiled new Galaxy Watch models. The watches feature better health tracking, including sleep apnea detection and advanced workout metrics. Integration with the foldables allows users to control music, calls, and fitness data seamlessly.
Samsung is betting on its ecosystem to keep users locked in. The Fold8 series works with Galaxy Buds, tablets, and laptops for a unified experience. The company also announced software updates that improve app continuity between devices.
Samsung has not announced India pricing yet, but expectations are that the Fold8 Ultra will start around Rs 1.5 lakh. The standard Fold8 and Flip8 are likely to be priced lower to attract more buyers. Pre-orders are expected to open next week in select markets.
The company will offer trade-in deals and financing options to make the phones more accessible. Samsung is also bundling free cases and screen protection with early purchases.
All eyes are now on how Indian consumers react to the new lineup. With competition from OnePlus and Google in the foldable space, Samsung needs to deliver on both price and experience. The next few months will tell if foldables finally go from niche to normal in India.
