Tecno Camon 50 Ultra 5G goes on sale in India today

Tecno has launched the Camon 50 Ultra 5G in India, and the smartphone is now available for purchase from today. The device, which had been generating buzz through teasers and early reviews, marks the company's latest push in the competitive mid-range 5G segment.

Price and availability

The Tecno Camon 50 Ultra 5G is priced competitively to take on rivals from Xiaomi, Realme, and Samsung. The base model with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage is priced at Rs 24,999, while the 12GB RAM variant costs Rs 27,999.

The phone is available across major online platforms including Amazon India and the company's own website. Tecno has also tied up with leading offline retail chains to ensure widespread availability.

Key specifications and camera

The standout feature of the Camon 50 Ultra is its 50-megapixel Sony IMX890 primary sensor. Tecno has paired this with a 13-megapixel ultra-wide lens and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. The front camera is a 32-megapixel unit housed in a punch-hole cutout.

Under the hood, the phone runs on a MediaTek Dimensity 8100 chipset, which handles 5G connectivity and day-to-day tasks. The device packs a 5000mAh battery with support for 67W fast charging. Tecno claims the phone can charge from zero to 100 percent in about 45 minutes.

AI and software features

Tecno has integrated Google Gemini AI into the Camon 50 Ultra. This brings features like AI-assisted photo editing, real-time language translation, and smart search capabilities. The phone runs Android 14 with Tecno's HiOS 14 skin on top.

The display is a 6.7-inch Full HD+ AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. It supports HDR10+ content and reaches a peak brightness of 1000 nits. The fingerprint sensor is embedded under the display.

To attract early buyers, Tecno is offering several launch deals. Customers can get a flat Rs 2,000 discount on HDFC Bank credit and debit cards. There is also an exchange offer worth up to Rs 4,000 for old smartphones.

Additionally, buyers get a free one-year screen replacement warranty, which covers accidental damage. EMI options starting at Rs 4,166 per month are available for those who prefer to pay in instalments.

The Camon 50 Ultra 5G goes up against phones like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus and the Realme 13 Pro Plus. Both competitors also offer 50MP cameras and similar pricing, making this a tightly contested segment.

Early unboxing videos from tech reviewers have praised the phone's build quality and camera performance, particularly in low light. However, some have noted that the software could use optimisation to reduce bloatware.

The company has not yet confirmed the software update policy for the device. Industry watchers will be keen to see how many Android version upgrades Tecno commits to for this model.
