Suresh Krissna credits Salman Khan for return to Hindi romance drama

Director Suresh Krissna is making a comeback to Hindi romance drama, a genre he last explored years ago. The filmmaker, known for hits like Baazigar and Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin, says one message from actor Salman Khan convinced him to return.

Krissna has not directed a Hindi romance in over a decade. His recent work has been in regional cinema, mostly Tamil and Telugu films. Speaking to The Times of India, he revealed that Khan's encouragement played a decisive role.

Salman Khan's one-line push

Krissna said the actor sent him a simple message that reignited his passion for the genre. 'His one message meant more than anything. It gave me the confidence to step back into Hindi romance,' the director stated.

The filmmaker did not share the exact words Khan used. But he made it clear that the gesture was unexpected and deeply moving. 'He didn't have to do it. But that single line changed my mind,' Krissna added.

A director with a hit record

Suresh Krissna burst into Bollywood with Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin in 1991, starring Aamir Khan and Pooja Bhatt. The film was a critical and commercial success. He followed it with the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Baazigar in 1993, which became a cult classic.

His last Hindi romance was Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai in 2001, featuring Kareena Kapoor and Tusshar Kapoor. Since then, he has directed films in the South, including Telugu blockbusters like Anniyan (2005) and Shiva Manasulo Shruti (2012).

Krissna's return to Hindi cinema has been in the works for a while. He had earlier said he was looking for the right script. Now, with Khan's backing, he feels the time is right.

What the new film could look like

Details about the upcoming project remain under wraps. Krissna has not revealed the cast or plot. But he hinted it will be a 'pure love story' with contemporary sensibilities.

'It will have the emotional core of my earlier films but with a modern setting. I want to make something that feels fresh but familiar,' he said. The director is currently in the scripting stage.

Salman Khan's involvement in the project is unclear. Krissna did not confirm if the actor will star in or produce the film. Industry insiders, however, suggest Khan might play a supporting role behind the scenes.

For now, Krissna is focused on the writing. He expects to announce the lead cast in a few months. If his past hits are any indication, the film will aim for a mix of romance and drama — the kind that made him a household name in the 1990s.

Fans of both Krissna and Salman Khan will be watching closely. The director's return marks a potential reunion with Bollywood's romance genre, one that defined his early career.
