Body Discovered During Morning Patrol
The body of a security guard was discovered early Sunday morning inside the Madras Export Processing Zone (MEPZ) in Tambaram, Chennai. The guard, whose identity has not yet been officially released by authorities, was found near a gate inside the special economic zone.
Another security personnel on duty made the discovery during a routine morning patrol around 5 am. The guard was reportedly unresponsive and showed visible signs of injury, prompting the colleague to alert the MEPZ security office and the local police.
Police Suspect Murder
Tambaram police arrived at the scene within minutes and cordoned off the area. Preliminary examination of the body by investigators indicates that the death was not natural. Police sources have confirmed that they are treating the case as a suspected murder.
“There were clear signs of foul play. The body has been sent to the government hospital in Chromepet for a post-mortem examination. We are awaiting the autopsy report to confirm the exact cause of death,” a senior police officer told reporters. The officer added that no weapon has been recovered from the spot yet.
Investigation Underway, CCTV Footage Scrutinised
The MEPZ is a high-security zone with multiple layers of access control and round-the-clock surveillance. Investigators are now examining footage from CCTV cameras installed across the facility, especially those near the gate where the body was found.
Police are also questioning other security personnel and staff who were on the night shift. “We are looking into whether the guard had any recent disputes or if this was a targeted attack. Nothing is being ruled out,” another official said. The identity of the deceased is being withheld until his family is formally informed.
No arrests have been made so far. The police have formed a special team to investigate the case and are checking records of vehicles and individuals who entered and exited the zone during the night.
