Emirates has partnered with BitPay, a leading crypto payment processor, to handle the transactions. When a customer chooses to pay with crypto, BitPay converts the digital currency into fiat at the current exchange rate. The airline receives the payment in traditional money, shielding it from crypto volatility.

Supported cryptocurrencies include Bitcoin, Ether, and several stablecoins. The service is available for bookings made on emirates.com and the Emirates app. There is no additional fee for using crypto, though standard exchange rate margins apply.

Why Emirates Made the Move

Emirates has been exploring blockchain and crypto applications for years. The airline launched a blockchain-based loyalty program and has experimented with NFT ticketing. Accepting crypto for flights is the latest step in its digital transformation strategy.

Industry analysts say the move is aimed at attracting tech-savvy travelers and the growing number of crypto holders in the Middle East and Asia. The UAE has positioned itself as a crypto-friendly hub, with clear regulations and a supportive government stance.
