In a joint operation, the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) intercepted a significant quantity of marijuana at Secunderabad Railway Station on Wednesday. Officials confiscated 16.92 kilograms of the contraband, valued at several lakh rupees in the illicit market.
Joint Check Leads to Seizure
The operation was part of routine surveillance and intelligence-led checking at the railway station. A team from the GRP's narcotics cell, assisted by RPF personnel, was monitoring passenger movements on a specific platform.
Their attention was drawn to a man carrying a large, heavy bag who appeared visibly nervous. On questioning, the suspect failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for his travel or the bag's contents.
Contraband Found in Luggage
A thorough search of the bag revealed multiple packets wrapped in adhesive tape. Each packet contained a dark green, dried substance that field-tested positive for marijuana. In total, the haul weighed 16.92 kilograms.
The accused, whose identity has not been officially released, was immediately taken into custody. He is being questioned to determine the source of the drugs and their intended destination.
Ongoing Investigation
Police have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Initial inquiries suggest the consignment was likely meant for distribution in Hyderabad or nearby cities, but investigators are yet to confirm this.
Officials have not ruled out the possibility of a larger network operating through the railway route. They are examining the accused's call records and travel history to identify any accomplices.
