Commuters Bear the Brunt

Daily passengers report confusion and delay as they navigate around barricades and construction material. "We have to walk an extra 200 metres and cross a busy road just to get in," said a regular user, who did not wish to be named. The situation worsens in the evening when the station sees a surge in footfall.

Local traders and residents have also voiced concerns, stating that the prolonged construction is affecting pedestrian movement and business in the vicinity. The area around Vadapalani is a bustling commercial hub, and the metro station was meant to integrate seamlessly with the neighbourhood.

CMRL Yet to Confirm Deadline

Officials at CMRL have not yet announced a revised timeline for the completion of the entry and exit structures. When contacted, a CMRL spokesperson said work is underway but declined to specify a finish date. This lack of clarity has added to the frustration of commuters who were promised a world-class transit facility.

The Phase II project, which spans multiple corridors across Chennai, has seen several delays in the past due to land acquisition issues and unforeseen technical challenges. The Vadapalani station is one of the key interchanges on the network, making its incomplete status particularly conspicuous.

What Lies Ahead

As CMRL pushes to complete the remaining civil works, commuters are hoping for a swift resolution. The corporation is expected to release an updated project status in the coming weeks, which may shed light on when the entry and exit points will be fully operational.
